Firewatch Review (1st review)

Firewatch is a 2016 indie game created by Campo Santo, released on February 9th, 2016. The bullets below will be talking about different parts of the game like graphics, the story and more.

Good Points:

  • Graphic and Artstyle: Every part of this game was BEAUTIFUL! Olly moss did a amazing job at designing the artwork for the game and the graphics were on point. The art style alone is what made me want to buy and play it.

  • Characters and voice acting: The characters personality and voice acting was on POINT! Each character had it’s own complete personality. Henry is an alcoholic whose wife has gone crazy and decided to run away from his messy life to work as a fire lookout. Delilah is a crossword puzzle fanatic and is Henry’s Superior. It turns out she was drunk when he hired Henry as well. And the voice acting was amazing! But I do think Henry's voice could have a bit more emotion.

  • The story is where it “kinda” fails. The beginning was great! Henry and Delilah connect with each other from the time they start talking. The story gets even better when you find out that someone is listening to all of their conversations. So you (Henry) must go find out who it is. The story has many plot twist! You find out that the stalker recorded you both talking about catching the tent on fire and makes it seem like you did, and you even find a dead body...but all of that doesn't matter any more at the end. There are only 2 ENDINGS. I could think of 5 endings for this game...but there are only 2 DAMN ENDINGS. The first ending is you talking to Delilah, which by the way you never meet, and you talk for the last time and then you board the helicopter. End. That's all. That is all that happens. You get on the helicopter, it starts moving and the screen turns black. The second ending is pretty much the same way but you have to wait 2 minutes once the helicopter come. It will leave you and the screen turns black. That is ALL. Many questions never get answered. Half of the stuff in the story doesn't even MATTER after a while. You find Brian, a dead kid that Delilah knew, she talks about it, cries and that's all. It’s forgotten. The story to ME could have been WAY better. Now if there something that I missed,. I went into this game thinking there was going to be many twist and turns….you find out you're being monitored so on and so forth, find a camp full of high tech equipment and are made to believe that there is something possibly of a social experiment going on. You get knocked over by some guy and people kept going to your watch tower (Twice to be precise). What I don’t understand is why there was so many twist plots for 2 ENDING!! And the game itself is 1-2 hours long at max. But  that's on me and please tell me. But the story does not deserve all of the fame that it’s getting. The writing was good, but it must be good to the ENDING. And this game failed completely. I think it’s worse than Mass Effect 3 ending. And that was also pretty bad.

The Rating:

The rating for Firewatch is gonna be a 9/10. It would be a 10/10 but it’s story brought it down 1. The story was not that great at all, as like a said a story is good from beginning to end. But everything else on this game was great! Thank’s for reading and if you want to continue following and getting updates on my future reviews follow me on twitter!
